  • New Member Looking for information on 1800 era German pistols

My name is Gene and I live in the Phoenix, AZ, USA area. I have in my possession (via my Father, Grandfather) two matching German pistols that I am trying to find information on. Someone told me they were made in the 1800's. The only markings I can find on them is on the top of the octagon barrel "Seeber A Sondershausen" and also the same thing on the side of the gun near the hammer. These guns are very ornate with lots of engraving in the metal parts and checkering on the wood. They are both in really nice shape. I also have two small pocket pistols that I think were made in England, but not sure. One is in pieces with some broken parts. Any help with information on these guns would be greatly appreciated. I am attaching a photo.

    Gene,
Welcome, we are glad to have you with us. Pistols, like this are outside my area of expertise(maybe I don't have an area), but others here will be happy to help you.At the very minimum, someone will be able to tell you about Seeber from Sondershausen. They are nice pistols, by the way.

Hi agfreeman The larger of the two pistols appears to have only a front blade on it. If you have a matched set of those they may be Dueling pistols. As I understand it Dueling pistols only had front sights . If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me. Time frame because it is a percussion pistol would be early to mid 1800s. The smaller of the two pistols looks to be a screw barrel percussion gun. The barrel screws off and was loaded with loose powder and ball from the rear and then the barrel was screwed back on. Both guns look to be in great shape. Would like to see better pic's of the bigger pistol.
