  • New member in North Texas

    Greetings form North Texas.
I am a new member that hope to one day afford a drilling, but for now I make do with M98 sporters.

I have a 9.3X62 half stock with a schoenble(spelling may be wrong)fore end and half octagon barrel. My wife bought me the 9.3 for a wedding gift and it is my main rifle to hunt whitetails with( I know its overkill but I don't have to track them far).

I've a 257 Roberts with a hogback stock with dual set triggers with a butter knife bolt handle which I've used on feral hogs.
I also have a more modern 98 that was a 308 win but was re-bored to 308 Norma Mag. I don't use it much-- too modern but I couldn't pass it up.
The main reason I have joined concerns my 5.6X61 V Hofe full stock with set triggers. When I bought it, I contacted this site and Jon Spencer was quite informative. It was built in 1940 by Herm Wiehrauch.
I saw the thread concerning loading for it and it was quite informative.
I'll get some pics up soon.

    wernerhelm,
Welcome, we are glad to have you with us. The 9.3x62 is a world class cartridge, I don't know if it's "over kill"; dead is dead and the 9.3 may not destroy as much meat as a light bullet in the 257.

      Wernerhelm,

Welcome, I think you are going to like it here. I am pretty new here also but find these guys really know their stuff and they are a great bunch eager to help.

      Regards, collath

I would think a 9.3x62 would make an excellent deer cartridge.

Welcome Sir! 9.3 X 62 is fine cartridge though I've not had the opportunity to work with one. I'll agree with Mike, I don't believe it's overkill. Certainly not when I think of all I shot with a 45-90 . I too have a soft spot for old Mausers with a Schnabel.

                  Wernerhelm,

A couple of sweet looking rifles you have there. I love those octagon barrels!

                  Thanks, collath

I noticed it's from Waffen Franconia. When I lived in Wuerzberg, I absolutly loved Waffen Franconia and spent as much time there as I could. Thanks for bringing back good memories.
