  • Info. on 16 ga. Dbl. SxS

Good day. I have been given a shotgun for which I have found little information. If appears to be well made, good balance, good condition and should be a fine field gun. Collector value, if there had been any, is probably low due to recoil pad and rebluing.

    Markings:
Top of bbl. C. Widmer, ZUG
    one side: Amtlich
    Rauchlosem

    Other side: Pulver
    Beschossen

Also indicates Krupp Essen Flussstahl (I recognize this). Any help with background will be much appreciated.

    eaglebob,
For us to give you much information about your gun, it will be necessary for you to post photos of the proofmarks and other markings found under the barrels. The photos should be large enough to be able to see the details.

It would appear that C. Widmer(?) sourced either components, effort or both from the talented Belgian mechanics in Liege and the full phrase should be something akin to:

Amtlich Vierfach Geprüft und Eingeschossen mit Stärkster ladung Rauchlosen Pulvers

      A similar thread is ongoing:

Having trouble with email on this site, forgive me if this is duplicate email. Thank you for this very valuable information. Appears this gun has 2 1/2" chambers, had to special order shells. Looking forward to hunting with it. Any rough idea of when it was made?
