  • Sling swivels for merkel

I am trying to locate swivel loop for barrel of Merkel model 100 e made in 1939 which has a bOlt hole just larger than 11/64 in.It is obviously a metric size. Also need swivel with wood screw for stock. Both loops need to accommodate a 3/4 in wide sling . Any ideas of how to find these items would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    billq,
I suggest you contact one of the gunsmiths that are shown in the "Trade Directory" in "Waidmannsheil". One of them will be able to help you, without doubt.

I have already contacted Steyr Arms. The current Merkel swivels do not fit the old guns properly. The screw which attaches the loop to the barrel is too small in Dia.

Will try some of the smiths you recommended

      Thanks. Bill

Have tried all gunsmiths in trade directory with no luck.
These swivels have been revived because most Americans do not like them. Someone has a replacement in a scrap box as

gun guys never throu away a part. Let me know if you have any ideas.

          Bill,
Did you try New England Custom Guns ? They deal in Recknagle parts for their own work and Recknagle has sling swivel parts "for the trade". Has any one told you what the problem is? It may help if you post a photo of the bottom of the barrel? The swivel for the buttstock should be no problem at all.

            Thanks Mike,

I have tried New England Custom Guns and Numrich with no luck. The problem is the size of the loops needs to be 3/4 inch and the bolt which attaches the loop to rhe barrel is just larger than 11/64 inch. The current swivels available from Steyr Arms have 1 inch loops and a small bolt which allows the loop to wobble around. They do not fit properly and do not look right.

My best hope is to find someone who has swivels removed from an old Gernan gun as I have seen this style on other guns.

            Thanks bill

              billq,
Call up the Recknagle website and the EAW(Ernst Apel Wurzburg) website. Then go to the cataloge sections and find what you need in one of them; write down the part number and provide it to New England Custom Guns. If they don't have it in stock, they can order it, as they have business relations with both companys. If the hole (11/64") has been enlarged to fit "quick detachable sling swivel ", it can be "bushed" to fit the screw(small bolt) in the loop. If this still doesn't work, if you have the part numbers you need; maybe one of our kind hearted members in Germany would come forward and send the parts from there. Of course, he would likely contact you by "PM" to avoid becomming covered up in requests. Don't stop trying, there is no doubt you can somehow come up with what you need.

I followed your instructions about Recknagel and have a swivel on the way to me from NEAC. Hopefully it will fit, otherwise I will be back on this site looking.
Your help has been tremendous and has made my membership in GGCA invaluable.

                Thanks. Bill

                  Bill,
Once you have the swivel, if you can't fit it (you may need a bushing, according to your description),your local gunsmith can. Good luck.

If you're wanting to make a swivel for using, I just modified a std QD swivel (for my Merkel BF) by turning a new cross pin the right size, with a shoulder (for ther narrow stud) and drilled out the old one on the swivel and welded in the new. I take my slings off when shooting or sitting in a stand, so don't like the perm swivels these guns come with, but don't like to modify the gun in case someone wants it original.

                      Greg47,
The answer to your dislike of slings when sitting in s stand or shooting is one (or several)of the quick shortening slings as offered buy GGCA in the "store".
