To be honest, when I first joined I was a bit disappointed to find that there was not a forum. It well done and moderated they can grow into huge resources unto themselves.

I bought a Sauer post war 16x16x7x57R with a very nice 6x48mm Hertel & Ruess scope from them. I wanted a little faster handling rig for bear and mountain lion calling so I built a set of rings for a Weaver K-1.5 mounted low to the barrel. It handles more like a DGR now, very fast and still very accurate.



Thought I was posting this in the Drilling thread but it ended up here.

I'm a avid bird and predator hunter. I hunt with mostly European SxS, Combo guns and Drillings. My family immigrated from Germany, they were farmers and my grandfather would tell me that the only hunting and fishing he did was poaching trout and game with homemade traps and snares. It is nice to be able to hunt with the weapons that my grandfather could only dream about.

My first experience with German guns was hunting with a very nice hammer Drilling in 1966 owned by a friends father, I have lusted for one for a long time, I have two now and enjoy them very much.

My family immigrated from the Erzgebirge region of Germany to the Milwaukee area of Wisconsin. There were many from that area of Germany and they formed a club called The Erzgebirgers in Milwaukee and owned a large dance hall and had a singing group that toured the US, all my uncles and grandfather were singers and picnics were a blast with Walter on the concertina and all the rest chiming in on songs. My father played trumpet in the orchestra. As a kid I went to all the picnics and fishing outings. They had a large park on Lake Michigan where they would hold the Vogelschiessen Festival, my grandfather would make the large ornate wooden birds that they would shoot to pieces with crossbow shooting steel tipped bolts. They would have shooting fields for the men, women and teenagers and the ones shooting off the last piece of the birds were the king, queen, prince and princess of the festival with oakleaf crowns and parades around the grounds. Grandpa was in charge of roasting the bratwurst and I don't think he was ever without his cigar and bottle of beer, either to drink or douse the flames under the brats so they wouldn't burn.

I'm in the Aberdeen area and shoot at the Aberdeen Rifle and pistol club.

It sounds like you had a very good time growing up.We didn't have the Vogelschiessen?, but the rest reminds me very much of our Rod and Gun Club Jaegerfests.Boy, I miss those times.

Sorry won't make the show, I'm not much of a gun show guy. Everything seems pretty over priced and too much tacticool stuff and mentality for me. I'm more of a guy htat likes to hunt ducks with a hammer gun and an ounce of #5 Nice shot than an SBE and 3.5" steel loads. Old Fart syndrome.
