  • Schmitt and Habermann Custom Rifle

This is my first post and I have a Schmitt and Habermann barreled in a 219 Zipper or Donaldson that I am trying to get more info on. It certainly is a One Off Custom and the only markings are on the Barrel (Brophy 219) I can supply pictures to anyone that might be interested in taking a shot at it.

    Don,
It's best to post pictures here, so you can get several(maybe too many)opinions, at the same time. Based on the info you provided, I suspect your rifle has been either rebarreled or relined in the United States. You may find other markings under the barrel, if it was relined rather than rebarreled. These markings (if existing) may reveal the age, original caliber, where it was proofed. An "even money bet" is that it was originally 8.15x46R, the 219 is based on a case similar in headsize and rimsize. Its interesting that it has the Brophy marking on the barrel, this is likely for Bill Brophy, who was a well known writer and expert on several subjects. He was an ammunition collector and he gave me some of my first examples for my own "accumulation"when I was stationed at FT.Benning in 1968-69. It will be necessary to make a chamber cast to determine the current chambering.
