  • Hi I'm Andy and a new member

Hi folks. I'm new to the site. The reason I joined is to hopefully gain some knowledge on two of my father in laws guns I received after his passing. The first is a double barrel side by side 16 gauge and the second is a three barrel hammered side by side 16 gauge (third is a rifle barrel under). These both date to pre-1940. Without posting more info yet was wondering if this is the correct location to start this thread? I have more detailed info and many pictures I can post.

Thanks so much for any help
    Andy

Welcome Andy. Most post in the General Discussion forum. Your 3 barrel firearm is called a "drilling" and they're often nice pieces and....a hot to shoot and hunt with!!!

Andy, Welcome, we are happy to have you with us. We will be happy to help you as best as we can, which ever forum you post under. Sharps4590 has made a good suggestion, in this regard. Whichever you choose, it will be less confusing if you post only one at a time, and each one separately . You should post clear readable photos of all markings on the guns, especially of the proof marks on the bottom side of the barrels( this will require removing the forearm and barrels). You didn't say whether you are interested in shooting them, or not. If so, we will likely be able to help you get set up. Was your father in law a WW2 veteran?, did he bring the guns back?; and if so, can you find "capture papers", in his personal effects ? Also, if he was in the war, it will be important for your family history to identify the unit(s) he served in and the route they took through the Theater of Operations. If, instead, he obtained them from someone else in the family( his father, uncle, etc.), the same information should be researched for them. Of course, none of the "family history" is necessary for us to help you with the guns.

Welcome to the club. Several guys here are quite knowledgeable. Follow their suggestions and you may find out a lot about your guns. They may be able to get you shooting them if it is your interest. The best. Packy
