Mauser werke a-g .22

I am looking for info on a rifle that was given to me . It is a basket case ,but I have assembled it and it appears to be missing the trigger spring cup or retainer that holds the spring from dropping into the chamber . It is a MAUSER WERKE A-G . Serial # 60549 .Any help would would be appreciated .

As Mauser made many .22 rifle models over the years, photos of the rifle and the action parts would be helpfull to identify the rifle and the problem.

By serial number it is maybe an inproved "ES340" made after 1924. Pics would make it easier............

Your rifle is a Mauser model Es 340, dating from about 1928. It is in far better condition than mine. I cropped your photos a bit für posting.




The groove around the barrel is not "Factory original". Apparently someone started to cut off the barrel once. No parts are missing from your rifle. You merely misunderstood the function.

Your photo of your trigger-sear-spring assembly. All parts seem to be ok.


To have a look at the function I took mine apart and made a hasty photo, dirty as it is:


As you see, the trigger spring does not go into that hole in the receiver. Instead, it presses against the flat immediately behind that hole. The hole is there to allow passage of the safety tooth at the front end of the sear. This tooth keeps the sear from releasing the striker if the bolt is not fully locked. This arrangement can be seen in the cutaway drawing too. 14 is the trigger spring, sitting in it's hole in the sear and pressing against the flat at the receiver bottom. 12 points at the tooth at the front end of the sear. when the trigger is pulled, this tooth goes up into the bolt raceway. If it does not meet a cutout in the bolt, the rifle can not fire.

the grove on the barrel looks original , as the blueing is continuous with no sign of the rifle having been reblued . It is a machined groove .
