  • Sat 5 Oct'19. HESA, Chelmsford, Essex. UK   Mini-Methuen comp. & black powder display

    Saturday 5th October 2019.
Herts & Essex Shooting Association, Great Leighs, Chelmsford, Essex. UK

Mini-Methuen competition and black powder firearms display. 10.00 – 14.00

This is for members close to Essex, in UK. The Herts & Essex Shooting Association is running a small competition for smallbore (.22 r/f up to .310 Cadet) calibres based on the Methuen course of fire, using reduced sized targets (25 yards) for prone deliberate, snaps kneeling and standing. All shot in class, so that pre-Great War sporting or training rifles are on a level playing field with modern bunny-bashers or target rifles. The targets really can be challenging!

As part of this there will be an exhibition of black powder arms in the clubhouse. These exhibitions can be anything from 20 to 60 guns on display – I would be a little surprised if there were any German sporting arms displayed there, but would quite expect to see a Mauser 71, 71/84, Martini’s, Belgian Flobert’s and the like.

Both the competition and the display are open to non-members and any GGCA member in the area would be most welcome.

If you want to shoot in the competition, the competition details are on the Historical Breechloading Smallarms Association website: https://sites.google.com/site/hbsauk...iature-methuen
