About Us
Our Association was founded in 1998 with the vision to preserve the history of German hunting and sporting guns and their makers for us and for future generations; and to share this history with like-minded people in the United States, in Germany and the entire world.
Our Mission
To achieve this, we established a permanent non-profit organization guided by democratic principles which welcomes members from all over the world. We collect and share information on sporting arms from the German-speaking areas of Europe; from the earliest flintlocks to the modern hunting and sporting guns. In addition, we collect information about the rich heritage of the German hunting and target shooting traditions.
The German Gun Collectors Association is incorporated in the state of New Hampshire, USA, and is recognized as a 501(c)3 educational non-profit organization.
Our organization depends on the support of our members and generous donors around the world. Donations are, of course, tax-deductible.
Our Services
Answering questions about German guns and their makers is one of the most important things we do. This service is not limited to our members but also available to the general public. See more under Inquiries.
We publish up to four informational magazines each year. Der Waffenschmied is an annual journal devoted to a particular area of study such as Drillings or a brand such as Collath. Our other title, Waidmannsheil! arrives three times a year is more topical and eclectic.
We maintain an archive, not only of our own publications but other magazines, book, catalogs, etc. We are presently working to place an expanded index and some material online.
All of our staff and contributors are all volunteers and receive no pay. We welcome new members and encourage owners of guns.
